Candle Care 101: How to Get the Most Out of Your Pastel Aromas Candles

At Pastel Aromas, we pour our hearts into crafting candles that bring warmth, joy, and relaxation into your space. To ensure you enjoy the full experience and get the most out of your candles, it's important to follow a few simple best practices. Whether you're new to candles or a seasoned candle lover, these tips will help you burn your candle efficiently and safely while prolonging its life.

1. Trim Your Wick Before Every Burn

One of the most important steps in candle care is trimming the wick. Before lighting your candle, make sure the wick is about 1/4 inch long. This helps prevent large flames, sooty smoke, and uneven burning. Trimming also helps your candle burn longer and more cleanly.

Pro tip: Use a wick trimmer or small scissors for a precise cut. Don’t forget to remove any wick trimmings from the wax before lighting!

2. Let Your Candle Burn for 2-4 Hours on the First Use

The first burn is crucial! When you light your candle for the first time, let it burn long enough for the entire top layer of wax to melt evenly from edge to edge. This creates a "memory burn," preventing your candle from tunneling (where wax remains stuck on the sides of the jar) and ensuring an even melt every time you use it.

Pro tip: Allowing a full melt pool each time you light your candle also maximizes its scent throw, filling your space with a stronger, more consistent fragrance.

3. Keep Candles Away from Drafts

Candles burn best in a stable environment. If your candle is placed near drafts or vents, it can cause the flame to flicker, leading to uneven burns, tunneling, or even creating smoke. Make sure to place your candle on a flat surface away from windows, fans, or air conditioning.

4. Extinguish with Care

When you're ready to put out your candle, avoid blowing it out, as this can cause smoke and may disturb the melted wax. Instead, use a candle snuffer or gently dip the wick into the melted wax with a wick dipper or a metal utensil, then straighten it. This method helps reduce smoke and keeps the wick coated for the next burn.

Pro tip: This is also a great way to keep your space smelling fresh—no lingering smoke smell!

5. Know When to Stop Burning

For safety and quality, it’s best to stop burning your candle once about 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom of the container. Burning the candle beyond this point can cause the container to overheat, which may damage the surface it's sitting on or even crack the jar.

Pro tip: Once you’ve finished your candle, you can repurpose the jar as a plant pot, storage container, or decorative piece by cleaning it out with warm, soapy water!

6. Store Your Candle Properly

Candles are sensitive to temperature and light. To maintain their quality, store your candles in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight or heat sources. This helps prevent discoloration or warping of the wax and ensures that the fragrance stays intact.

7. Clean Your Jar Regularly

If you notice soot building up around the rim of your candle jar, gently wipe it away with a damp cloth. Keeping the jar clean helps maintain a sleek appearance and ensures that your candle looks as good as it smells.

By following these simple tips, you can extend the life of your Pastel Aromas candles and enjoy their delightful scents to the fullest. Remember, taking a little extra care with your candles ensures a better, safer, and more enjoyable experience every time you light them.
